Last week we spent two hectic days at LegalEx, the biggest show specifically for small law firms in the UK at the Excel centre in London’s Docklands. We had been the previous year, so we knew it was likely to be good for us, but we weren’t prepared for the reception we were to get this time.
I was “volunteered” to give our presentation on “Cloud Technology and the Modern Law Firm” and, as there were several presentation streams at the same time I was wondering what kind of turn-out we would get for the presentations. I needn’t have worried as on the first day the presentation theatre was almost full, and when I gave the second talk the next day the theatre was overflowing and there were people standing at the back!
I’m used to giving presentations and have done many in the past two years that LEAP has been in the UK, but I’ve never had people so engaged before. People were taking notes, smiling and taking photographs – of the screen I think rather than of me! Also after each talk we had people coming onto our booth asking for demos and asking some really interesting questions.
The show was a great success for us, and I would guess there was a mix of about 40% partner-level, 40% fee earners and interestingly about 10% of people who were looking to set up their own practices. Perhaps that’s why we were so inundated, as they liked the sound of setting up using a cloud-based system. We even had “referrals” so to speak, people who had been on our stand sent others to see us.
We’ll certainly be back at Excel next year!
